Thanksgiving Gratitude on The Way 42

The Way by Andrew Judd

One of the many things I am thankful for are the wide array of interesting people I have met and friendships that have developed through social media outlets….people whose paths  I may not have otherwise crossed. I have found it to be an educational, supportive, enjoyable and heartwarming experience.

One such person I met a couple of years ago was David White, a fellow interior designer in Canada who also shares in my passion for painting art.

A late night conversation evolved into an agreement for an artist swap of each other’s work, something which neither of us had done before. I first meet David on twitter and it later progressed to facebook where I began to learn a little more about him. Although it would have been easy to just send him a piece of art from my current inventory, I had an inner tug to paint something for him that was significant to who he was.

“The Way” by Andrew Judd

I came to discover, that in addition to being a passionate designer and artist, David was a big guy with a big heart who gave of himself selflessly in participation for many worthwhile causes. The word “Community” came to mind and a concept for a painting was born.

The artist process for creating a painting differs for many. For myself it tends to be somewhat intuitive. Sometimes I will start a background with one direction in mind but later find myself going in a totally different direction. My painting “Community” is a perfect example. When I started the background, I actually had set out to experiment with a “universe theme” requested by my son and was inspired by the many “Nebula” photos I had been seeing on Pinterest.

"Community" in Progress

Once a background is finished, I often let the canvas sit around for a least a few days and let it “speak” to me and guide me on how I want to proceed. On this particular piece, I began to see shapes and stories take form and I soon realized this would become the “Community” painting I would develop for my new friend.  It is not unusual for me to start a painting with one direction in mind that turns out to be something totally different!

I favor paintings that are suggestive and allow the viewer freedom to complete the story from their own unique perspective. As this painting progressed, many stories started to come to life.  New stories continue to develop as I view this piece. Not everyone will see the same stories as I.

That is what makes art so fascinating for me.

The original is now  in Canada with its rightful new owner. It is a tribute to those who come out from their comfort zone to help those in need. I highly encourage anyone living in the Toronto area to give David White a call if they are needing help with their interior, kitchen or bath.

Thanks for stopping by!

Terri

It’s always nice to read or hear the explanation behind a piece of artwork. Thanks, Terri!

Thanks Christina! Although I like to leave a little to the imagination for viewers to see their own stories, I think some knowledge of the inspiration makes the piece more personal.

What a great way to express gratitude. It is truly from the heart when you can express it so beautifully. I think this is a big part of why I admire your work so much; it speaks to me on a deeper level than just visual. I have reserved a great place in my home for the pieces of yours that I already own – because I think I relate to them more than any other artist’s originals I have ever purchased. It makes me thankful that I met you through the wonderful world of Facebook, and get to enjoy your talent daily.

Thank You so much Veronica! Your comment is really special to me. My art goes much deeper than what you see visually and I love that you can feel that too! I , too, am so glad our paths crossed. I really appreciate your support!

Another gorgeous piece. I agree that everyone sees and feels art differently, but I love to hear what has inspired the artist – and what a beautiful story! My fellow Canadian David White and I follow each other on social media – but I didn’t realize what an artist he is! Happy Thanksgiving, Terri!

I love your paintings! Your art is amazing and especially the “Community Art” just in time for Thanksgiving! Your art is colorful, vivid and mesmerizing to say the least.

Interesting post! What a perfect painting to represent your friend’s many worthwhile causes. If you could make a painting to represent yourself, what would it be like?

Thanks Lori! That is an interesting question you pose and one I will be giving some thought to! Another new painting concept yet to be born!

Terri, the first painting, the background, makes me think of a heart full of colors. It’s very beautiful. I love it more than the finished work.

Simona, everybody relates to art in a different way. I was actually happy with the background too but was compelled to finish the vision I saw. I have some ideas of some things I might do with the background image as I really like the interplay of colors.

What a beautiful expression of what you had learned about your new friend. It is amazing how the vehicle of social media can bring us together in such an intimate although far away manner. Thank you for sharing this with us!

Yes, Cindy, It has been an amazing journey. I have several real life friends who are resisting the social media scene. They do not understand what they are missing.

Hi Veronika! I had a tug to create something that was significant to who he was. I have been so impressed with all the community projects he partakes in.

What a wonderful idea, action and painting. I love your style and the inside look at how your art evolves. It was my pleasure to pin this to my blog board. Soon I might have to make an art as inspiration board. It’s on my list for 2014 so keep painting.

Terri, I have been enjoying all you paintings so very much! I love your colorful style but the best part of a Masterpiece is to hear the story and inspiration behind it. You’re very inspiring and thank you for sharing your art with us. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!
